Silk Soy Milk May Contain Almonds!

I went shopping for milk last night and I just happened to look at the Silk Soy Milk label and discovered that they now state that their milk may contain almond and coconut. This is a huge concern for us since all three of my children are allergic to treenuts and my oldest is very allergic to almonds. I checked every variety of their refrigerated half gallons and their non-refrigerated boxed milks and they all contained this warning. I checked the yogurt I purchased at Whole Foods on Tuesday and they do not have this warning on their containers. I have emailed Silk to express my concern and if this impacts you I would suggest emailing them. I will keep you updated if I recieve a response from the company.

Update: In addition to emailing the company I also asked them about this issue on Facebook. Here is the link to their response. Basically they make all the coconut milk, almond milk and soy milk in the same facility so there is always a risk of cross contamination.

Oh my heavens. Thanks for telling me! It was always safe to purchase before! I guess that just means I have to read EVERY LABEL EVERY TIME I shop.

I'm upset. I won't be buying silk anymore...there's a good generic at Wegmans. If they do get back to you, tell them you are NOT the only one upset. I'll be posting this in all the food allergen groups soon.

This must be a new warning and i wonder why its taken so long. Luckily we dont have any nut allergies but scary for those that do.

I'm a habitual lable reader... Almost everythings says something like, "made in a plant where "fill in the blank" is processed" ... I'm sure it is hard on people with food allergies...

Returning the follow... thanks for stopping by The Kandy Shoppe ;)

That is amazing. There are so many kids with multiple allergies that could be affected by Silk! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for letting me know about their response... they've permanently lost a couple of customers though. I'm not going to read their containers every time I go shopping to see if they expanded their factories, so I can give them back my business.

My MIL- who bought their Silk milk all the time, will be switching brands as well, so that she's able to give it to my kids when they come over.
